Japanese Stiltgrass

Microstegium vimineum

Stiltgrass is native to Asia and was probably introduced into the US as a packing material as early as the second decade of the Twentieth Century.   Like other invasive plants, it will quickly spread and take over cleared areas, crowding out all other growth.   An individual plant can produce up to 1000 seed which are easily transported and are viable for up to five years.
