First DOST Matching Grant

A grant awarded to Keep Durham Beautiful by the Durham Open Space and Trails Commission

Picture
This grant is funded by Durham County and administered by the Durham Open Space and Trails Commission (DOST).  Our grant was awarded to Keep Durham Beautiful on behalf of the park in August 2012.  Since the grant is a matching grant, we had to come up with an equal or greater amount of money, volunteer labor,  and/or in-kind services to equal  the money awarded by DOST.

Our Grant was for $10,000 and our match was slightly more than $10,000.  Here is the breakdown on our matching contributions:
  • Site Plan for Observation Deck donated by Coulter, Jewell & Thames:  $3487
  • Cash Contributions of $1000 each by NC Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Allenton Management, and Ticon Properties
  • Over $1000 donated by friends and neighbors of Sandy Creek
  • Volunteer Labor (618 hours) pledged by the Friends of Sandy Creek (hours were exceeded in 2013 alone)
Without the above contributions we could not have secured the grant.  We are grateful to all who have contributed.

Projects included in the grant are:  Split Rail Fence, Wildlife Observation Blind, ADA Grills, Landscaping, Educational Signs, Invasive Plant Removal.

We want to express our special thanks to Tania Dautlick, Executive Director of Keep Durham Beautiful, for sponsoring our grant as well as Rosetta Radtke and Annette Smith of Durham Parks and Recreation for helping to coordinate this grant.

Additional contributions for on-going projects can be made to Keep Durham Beautiful and designated for Sandy Creek Park.
