Chinese Privet

Ligustrum sinese

Picture

Chinese Privet or more commonly known as just Privet was introduced many years ago as a landscaping shrub.  It is fast growing and easy to trim into hedge fence.  It is still sold by some stores for this purpose.  It thrives in damp areas and will quickly take over entire areas of a wetland forest like parts of Sandy Creek and the New Hope Creek, crowding out all other native shrubs and trees.
