State Parks Grant

2010 - 2012

Picture
Durham Parks and Recreation was awarded a $5000 grant from the North Carolina State Parks for improvement of the trails in Sandy Creek Park.  Since well over half of the park was on the north  side of Sandy Creek, repairing the old bridge across the creek was a high priority.  In the fall of 2011 the New Hope Creek Corridor Advisory Committee and the Friends of Sandy Creek planned and recruited volunteers to work on the bridge. The bridge was dedicated in 2012 to Kenneth Coulter Jr. for his foresight and planning in preserving Sandy Creek Park.  In addition to the bridge, the grant paid for two benches along the paved greenway.
